Welcome to FreeIndeed: A Space for Healing and Growth
At FreeIndeed, we believe in creating a space where love, respect, and healing take priority over differences in belief or identity. Whether you’re seeking support, community, or a way to contribute to a life-changing movement, we invite you to join us on this transformational journey.
What Is FreeIndeed?
FreeIndeed is more than just a recovery program—it is a community built on healing, growth, and shared wisdom. Our approach draws from multiple sources, including the foundational principles of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), the Bible, Taoism, Buddhism, and evidence-based secular methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). We believe that wisdom and healing can come from many paths, and our goal is to provide a space where people can find what works best for them.
A Multi-Faceted Approach
While FreeIndeed will begin with small group meetings—similar to AA and other recovery circles—our vision extends beyond these initial gatherings. With the right resources, we aim to develop a comprehensive program that offers mentoring, life skills training, and a worship community for those seeking a spiritual home. However, our core mission remains the same: to help people find freedom from the burdens that hold them back.
A Welcoming Approach to Church Involvement
We deeply value partnerships with local churches and faith-based organizations; however, we want to be clear: FreeIndeed is not a platform for recruitment or conversion. Instead, we focus on demonstrating love and kindness in action.
What This Means:
- We welcome churches to provide volunteers and resources as long as they respect each participant’s journey.
- We believe that kindness and compassion speak louder than words or tracts.
- Volunteers are welcome to share their faith if asked, but they should do so respectfully and without pressure or guilt.
Sample Talking Point:
“We invite churches to be involved in serving our participants, but we ask that they focus on showing love rather than preaching. We want people to experience care and support without any strings attached.”
A Safe Space Without Fear
Many of our participants have experienced trauma, including religious trauma. We aim to create an environment where healing can occur without fear, shame, or judgment.
What This Means:
- We do not allow messages that promote fear-based tactics or condemnation.
- We ensure that our space remains a place of encouragement and safety.
- Volunteers are trained to approach each person with dignity and respect, understanding their individual needs.
Sample Talking Point:
“Past religious experiences have hurt some of our participants. We aim to create a space where they feel safe and supported, not burdened with guilt or fear.”
Our Approach to LGBTQ Participants
We are not a church but a community focused on healing and personal growth. Our mission is to support individuals on their journeys, including those in the LGBTQ community. We do not take an official stance on theological debates—our focus is on treating every person with respect and care.
What This Means:
- We welcome and support all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
- We do not condone discrimination or exclusion.
- We ask all volunteers and partners to uphold the same values of kindness and respect.
Sample Talking Point:
“We help people recover from addiction and life challenges, period. No one is turned away based on who they are. We focus on creating a supportive, loving space where everyone is treated with dignity.”
A Simple Code of Conduct
To ensure a welcoming environment, we have a simple and straightforward code of conduct for all volunteers and partner organizations:
- No one will be pressured to adopt a particular faith or belief system.
- No judging or shaming anyone for their past, identity, or personal choices.
- Demonstrate kindness and respect in all interactions.
Sample Policy Statement:
“All volunteers and partner organizations agree to a Compassionate Collaboration Policy: We refrain from proselytizing or pressuring any spiritual viewpoint. We honor every participant’s identity, including LGBTQ, without condemnation or special treatment. We actively contribute to an atmosphere of respect and empathy.”
Navigating Difficult Conversations
We recognize that tough questions will arise. When they do, we encourage open but respectful dialogue, emphasizing personal perspective rather than debate.
Guidelines for Volunteers:
- Speak from your own experience: “I believe…” or “In my church, we practice…”
- If a conversation becomes too heated, redirect carefully: “That’s a big topic. Let’s discuss it privately if you’d like.”
- Refer individuals to a counselor or staff member who can guide them in a more appropriate setting.
Keeping the Focus on Our Mission
Our commitment to recovery, growth, and community is at the heart of everything we do. Our mission is not to create theological debates or divisions but to help people find hope and restoration.
What This Means:
- We prioritize unity and common ground over ideological differences.
- We welcome church support, but only within the framework of respect and non-coercion.
- We ensure that all who walk through our doors—clients, volunteers, and supporters alike—understand that this is a place of love and healing.
